STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM TRIFLE

This traditional English dessert is simple yet scrumptious. Its beautiful layers of strawberries and whipped cream over spongy cubes will easily feed a crowd!

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries

  • 4 tablespoons sugar

  • 4 cups heavy cream

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 vanilla ready mix cake (Pillsbury or Betty Crocker), cut into small cubes

PREPARATION

1. First, make sure you bake the ready mix cake as per the instructions and cool down completely before cutting into small cubes

2. Mash one cup of strawberries, sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sugar and set aside.

3. In a bowl, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the heavy cream and the powdered sugar, and beat it using a handheld mixer until stiff peaks form.

4. Removing half of the whipped cream to another bowl, fold in the strawberry puree to the cream mixture and set aside.

5. Add a tablespoon of sugar to the remaining sliced strawberries.

6. Using a trifle dish, or individual cups, layer with cake at the bottom, topping with layers of strawberry cream, berries, whipped cream and more cake until you’ve filled the dish

7. Garnish with whipped cream and berries and dig in!

Notes:
For the cake, I like to use Betty Crocker’s vanilla cake or Pillsbury’s vanilla cake.
